A brief history of theatre





Join Face to Face as they go on a whirlwind tour through the history of theatre. Time being short, they can only cover a limited number of theatrical ages. The teacher’s pack is split into two parts. The first part, for teachers, offers a brief introduction to each theatrical age that is covered in the show as well as the tapescripts of the extracts to be found on the CD. The second part of the pack is directed at students and includes games and activities based on the extracts in the show. 

Cavemen: How did man entertain himself back in the days when there were no stages let 
 alone cinema and televison?

The Greeks: The first true theatrical tradition was born in Greece 2500 years ago. Tragedies 
 were at its its core with major themes being love, death and revenge.

Shakespeare: Probably the greatest playwright of all time, Shakespeare lived in England in the 
 16th century. He wrote comedies, tragedies and history plays.

Musicals: One of the greatest 20th century theatrical genres, musicals have been playing
